306 | FROM ULRICH ZASIUS 25 Sese commendat. Octob. 1514. Girardo, viro solidae eruditionis, me multis nominibus commenda, quem spero olim mihi propiorem et magis coniunctum futurum. Tuus Vdalricus Zasius, ll. doctor ordinarius. 303,6307,,, To ULRICH ZASIUS. Farrago p. 387. Basle. F. pp. 472 and 615 : HN : Lond. xii. 7 : LB. App. 11. 23 September 1514. Munich MS. Lat. 1470, f. 199. [In the Munich manuscript from which Ep. 313 is derived there is a copy of this letter (a) by the same hand. The copy seems to have been made from a manuscript, because there are gaps where the writer was evidently unable to decipher his original. Of the several printed editions its text agrees most closely with E; but as it has a few substantial differences, it was probably copied either mediately or immediately from the autograph. There are, however, so many palpable blunders that it cannot be given precedence; and therefore, whilst preferring some of its readings, I have adopted the text of E as a basis; though for convenience in the sigla I have placed a before E in the apparatus criticus. A few specimens of the blunders are given below; but it would serve no purpose to record them all. In F through an oversight this letter was printed twice, though without variation ; but the second text is removed in H. The date is confirmed by the list of works on which Erasmus was engaged ; cf. Epp. 269, 396, 373, 311, 312, 272, 207, 325.] ERASMVS ROTERODAMVS VDALRICO ZASIO, EXIMIO LL. DOCTORI, GERMANIAE DECORI INCOMPARABILI S. D.
